Educator Community Programs & Resources

NYU Grossman School of Medicine’s Educator Community brings together partners from across the institution who share a common goal: to champion educational excellence, innovation, and scholarship. These partners offer an array of resources available to faculty to help them develop their skills as educators.

Education, Faculty, and Academic Affairs

Education, Faculty, and Academic Affairs aims to support and enhance the productivity and quality of education and faculty matters at NYU Langone through improved administrative structures and programs. We provide guidance and oversight around appointments, promotion, and tenure.

Continuing Medical Education

NYU Grossman School of Medicine’s continuing medical education (CME) program strives to maintain and enhance the medical school’s mission by offering lifelong learning opportunities of the highest quality. The CME team assists faculty with organizing and presenting courses, ultimately increasing individual and institutional recognition within the broader medical community. In 2016, we certified more than 60,000 hours of faculty education.

Graduate Medical Education

The Office of Graduate Medical Education coordinates all residency and fellowship programs and maintains institutional compliance with the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). There are more than 1,000 house staff currently in training at NYU Grossman School of Medicine, with training taking place at NYU Langone, NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue, the VA NY Harbor Healthcare System, and other affiliated institutions.

Institute for Innovations in Medical Education

The Institute for Innovations in Medical Education drives world-class innovations in teaching, learning, evaluation, and assessment at the undergraduate, graduate, and continuing medical education levels. We serve as a laboratory for new educational models and combine the science of learning with technology and informatics-based solutions to support curricular transformation; self-directed, individualized learner progression; and continuous quality improvement. The institute is home to several divisions and programs: the Division of Education Quality, the Division of Academic Analytics, Education Information Technology, the Program for Digital Learning, the Educator Community, and the new Precision and Translational Medical Education Laboratory.

Mentoring and Faculty Development

The Office of Mentoring and Faculty Development facilitates and supports departmental mentoring programs. Each department has a “mentoring champion” who works to provide structure and oversight over their department’s mentoring program and develops a cadre of talented mentors.

New York Simulation Center

New York Simulation Center serves the academic needs of the health science schools of City University of New York and NYU Grossman School of Medicine in order to ultimately improve patient safety and the quality of care. Each year, more than 3,700 hours of instruction are offered for undergraduate and graduate medical education and faculty development. The center also serves as the locus for simulation education research.

Office of Diversity Affairs

Among the responsibilities of NYU Langone’s Office of Diversity Affairs are to cultivate a culture in which diversity is valued, implement programs for the professional development and mentoring of diverse students and faculty, and develop cultural competency curricula and programs that addresses health disparities.

Office of Medical Education

The Office of Medical Education is focused on training future physicians. Our mission is to continuously improve and enhance the educational experience of our medical students by leading with the values of performance, respect, integrity, diversity, and excellence (PRIDE). We oversee the management of the medical school curriculum, including curricular development and innovation, implementation, and evaluation activities.

Program for Medical Education Innovations and Research

The Program for Medical Education Innovations and Research is dedicated to advancing medical education scholarship and instituting best practices for patient-centered, evidence-based medical education. We support research and practice that strengthen the links between healthcare provider training, patient health, and wellbeing. This includes the Research on Medical Education Outcomes program, which works to link medical education directly to patient outcomes.

Vilcek Institute of Graduate Biomedical Sciences

The Vilcek Institute of Graduate Biomedical Sciences is dedicated to the training of future PhDs and MD/PhD students by creating an environment supportive of scientific discovery and professional growth.
