NYU Langone’s molecular microbiology laboratory, located at Tisch Hospital and directed by Guiqing (Hank) Wang, MD, PhD, offers a large test menu of molecular microbiology tests using nucleic acid amplification technology. We have a vast number of different platforms that allow us to detect bacteria, viruses, parasites, and fungi directly from clinical samples.

We have many platforms that can detect microorganisms from clinical samples as well as identify organisms from cultures. Our platforms also allow us to quantify viral loads of viruses from clinical samples. We are expanding to develop our own laboratory tests to detect microorganisms not currently available on commercial platforms, and soon we will have next-generation sequencing.

Our laboratory will soon move to a newly renovated area near the new clinical microbiology laboratory. It will be equipped with the state-of-the-art technology and next-generation microbiology diagnostics.
