Emergency Medicine Community Education Initiatives

Protecting young people from preventable illness and injury is the major goal of outreach programs led by faculty in NYU Langone’s Ronald O. Perelman Department of Emergency Medicine.

Our community education initiatives connect NYU Langone doctors with New York City public schools to help students make smart choices about their health.

The Prevention and Education Partnership (PEP) is an innovative drug prevention curriculum that empowers teens through discussions about legal and illegal substance use and its consequences. Positive feedback we have received from educators and students confirms the importance of such programs and demonstrates that our approach works to decrease the number of teens using drugs.

Our K–12 Outreach Programs teach young people a range of skills, from proper handwashing to how to use a defibrillator, that enhance their health and wellness and that of people around them.
