Financial Education for MD Students

At NYU Grossman School of Medicine, we strive to ensure our medical students graduate with minimal debt and maximum financial awareness. The Office of Admissions and Financial Aid has compiled a variety of financial literacy resources to empower our students to make smart decisions about student loans, how to manage student loan debt, and their overall financial wellbeing.

Financial Information, Resources, Services, and Tools

The Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) has created a financial literacy program, Financial Information, Resources, Serves, and Tools, also called FIRST. Some features of FIRST include videos and webinars on topics including how to pay for medical school, the cost of residency interviews, and selecting a loan repayment program, as well as a useful student loan calculator.

U.S. Department of Education Financial Counseling

The U.S. Department of Education’s Federal Student Aid Office offers undergraduate, graduate, and professional students a variety of financial aid counseling tools, including a loan repayment estimator.

Other Financial Resources for Medical Students

We recommend several other resources to help you manage your finances during medical school, including a cost of living calculator, online courses on personal finance and investing for medical professionals, and tools to monitor your credit score.
