Telehealth Research & Innovation for Veterans with Cancer Pragmatic Trial

All four recipients funded under the Telehealth Research and Innovation for Veterans with Cancer (THRIVE) grant, including NYU Grossman School of Medicine, participate in a pragmatic trial. THRIVE will collaborate with the VA National TeleOncology Program (VA NTOP) as it rolls out telehealth care for cancer in more than 100 VA facilities to conduct a comprehensive evaluation of the multilevel virtual oncology program, focusing on engagement with telehealth and reducing healthcare disparities.

Aims for the THRIVE Pragmatic Trial include the following:

  • evaluate the effect of a comprehensive multilevel virtual oncology program to promote telehealth engagement on stakeholder cancer care experience across social determinants of telehealth (SDTH)
  • evaluate the effect of a comprehensive, multilevel virtual oncology program on quality of cancer care in veterans diagnosed with lung, colorectal, prostate, and breast cancer across SDTH
  • determine the impact and cost of a comprehensive multilevel teleoncology program

By analyzing the rollout of its state-of-the-art oncologic care across such a large set of sites, THRIVE will be able to assess the impact of the program while helping to adjust for measured and unmeasured confounding.
