Tobacco, Alcohol & Drug Use Opioid Overdose Prevention Program

Opioid overdose prevention programs (OOPPs) are regulated programs with the New York State Department of Health that train nonmedical persons to recognize and manage opioid overdose and increase public naloxone access via free naloxone access.

NYU Langone’s Tobacco, Alcohol, and Drug Use Opioid Overdose Prevention Program (TADU OOPP) runs on a tiered training model, where OOPP staff members are trained dispensers who provide free naloxone overdose kits to clients, participants, staff, and community members. Overdose rescue kits include two doses of nasal Narcan (naloxone) spray, a face shield, two non-latex gloves, educational material, Narcan instructional sheet, and a blue certification of completion. Intramuscular naloxone is available with advanced request. The OOPP also supplies fentanyl and xylazine test strips, Plan B, and safer sex supplies.

The TADU OOPP offers the following:

  • training for you and your team on how to administer naloxone
  • assisting with community-facing events
  • training your team to incorporate naloxone into your research so that study participants can be provided with naloxone

Anyone can be trained to save a life. Learn how to recognize and respond to an overdose to benefit the health and safety of your community.
