Seminars by Postdocs in Neuroscience: Extramural Series

The Neuroscience Institute hosts Seminars by Postdocs in Neuroscience: Extramural Series, or SPiNES, a monthly event inviting postdoctoral researchers from outside of NYU Langone to present their work in an hour-long seminar, to meet one-on-one with faculty, and to engage our community in informal discussions. This seminar series was started in 2011.

We aim to attract the best and brightest from the local region with a twofold goal: to provide talented young scientists with an unprecedented opportunity to share their research and receive feedback from NYU Langone faculty, postdocs, and students; and to provide NYU Langone postdocs with an opportunity to network with the next generation of faculty before they move on to faculty positions. Speakers receive a small honorarium and are reimbursed for travel.

Nearly 70 percent of speakers in this series have gone on to independent faculty positions at institutions such as Princeton University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the University of California, San Francisco, and Harvard University.

The nomination process for the 2023–24 SPiNES is now closed. Thank you to those who have submitted a speaker nomination for the seminar series. The SPiNES committee will convene after the submission deadline, and notification of acceptances and declines will be sent by late August.

Please direct any inquiries about SPiNES to Rihan Hassad, MPH, senior project coordinator, Neuroscience Institute, at Rihan.Hassad@NYULangone.org.
