About the Department of Radiation Oncology

We have a history of advancing radiation therapy services, as well as research and education.

The Department of Radiation Oncology at NYU Langone Health began as part of the Department of Radiology. In 1999, it became an independent department within NYU School of Medicine. Over the last two decades, the department has been transformed into a modern center with advanced equipment and highly trained faculty and staff.

Under the leadership of Alec Kimmelman, MD, PhD, a renowned physician–scientist who joined the department in 2016, our goal is to develop a multifaceted, world-class research program with a team of investigators who bring innovative treatments to our patients.

Our physicians are leaders in their fields and work closely with our surgeons and medical oncologists in specialized multidisciplinary teams focused on treating specific types of cancer. In addition, we advance research and education in the field and offer exceptional training to radiation oncologists, residents, physicists, and research scientists.
