Health And… Racial Equity and Urban Well-Being

This spring, the Department of Population Health at NYU School of Medicine will be hosting the second annual “Health And…” Conference on Monday, May 22, from 8:30-4:00 p.m., at NYU School of Law’s Vanderbilt Hall on 40 Washington Square South 

This year’s conference will focus on Racial Equity and Urban Well-Being, with speakers and participants exploring challenges and illuminating opportunities and promising strategies for advancing health equity and community well-being. Speakers include:

  • Mary Bassett, MD, MPHCommissioner, New York City Department of Health & Mental Hygiene
    • Keynote: Healthcare and public health approaches to addressing racism
  • Charles Branas, PhD, Chair, Department of Epidemiology at Columbia's Mailman School of Public Health
  • John Hockenberry,  Host of "the Takeaway" on WNYC
  • Nancy Krieger, PhD, Professor, Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health

The Health And… Conference

With the goal of translating research into action to improve urban population health, the “Health And…” Conference series brings together leading investigators, policymakers, practitioners, and community leaders who work at the intersection of Health and… its many determinants. Throughout the day, we highlight the latest findings, identify front-line innovations, develop pressing questions to investigate, and define promising policies and partnerships in order to advance population health and health equity.

The first conference was held on April 11, 2016, at NYU Langone Medical Center.
