At NYU Langone’s Hansjörg Wyss Department of Plastic Surgery, we are committed to providing compassionate and unbiased advanced clinical services, which can include multidisciplinary evaluation and treatment of complex clinical problems, to all of our patients.

We offer a full range of reconstructive and cosmetic procedures performed in state-of-the-art operating rooms. Advanced recovery rooms are also an integral part of our care.

Some of our many services include craniofacial surgery, breast reconstruction and augmentation, reconstructive hand surgery, face transplantation, and transgender surgery.

Whether patients require procedures as a result of injury or congenital abnormalities or for cosmetic reasons, our surgeons offer the latest approaches to care, based on a foundation of research and evidence-based medicine.

Conditions We Treat

We perform plastic surgery to manage a variety of conditions, including facial trauma and acquired malformations, congenital craniofacial abnormalities, and congenital hand deformities.

We also offer reconstructive procedures to patients who have received treatment for head and neck cancer or breast cancer. We perform surgery to restore appearance in patients with ptosis, or eyelid drooping; eye tumors; and facial nerve disorders.

Face Transplant Program

Our Face Transplant Program provides services to selected patients who have experienced severe facial trauma or disfigurement. Our department performed the most extensive face transplant to date in August 2015. In January 2018, we successfully performed a second face transplant in 25 hours—11 hours less than the previous procedure. Our team was the first to perform a whole-eye and partial-face transplant in May 2023.
