Director, Division of Pediatric Infectious Diseases

In the Division of Pediatric Infectious Diseases in NYU Langone Health’s Department of Pediatrics, faculty and fellows provide expert clinical care to children with infectious diseases. They care for patients at Hassenfeld Children’s Hospital at NYU Langone, Fink Children’s Ambulatory Care Center, NYU Langone Orthopedic Hospital, and NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue.

In addition, the division educates the next generation of pediatric infectious diseases specialists through its Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education–accredited fellowship program and medical student electives. Trainees have opportunities to learn about clinical care for families and young adults affected by a wide range of infectious diseases and immunodeficiencies, including HIV.

Through the division’s clinical, epidemiological, and translational laboratory research programs, investigators are advancing new strategies for the treatment and prevention of childhood infections such as congenital and perinatal infections, vaccine-preventable diseases, methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus and other antibiotic-resistant pathogens, and immunodeficiencies including HIV. Researchers collaborate with investigators from other divisions and departments, capitalizing on an interdisciplinary approach for furthering research in pediatric infectious diseases.

Members of our division see and treat patients at the Youth and Young Adult Specialized Care Center at Bellevue. The center provides the following medical care and support services to youth up to age 25 who are HIV positive or at high risk of HIV infection:

  • confidential HIV counseling, testing, and treatment
  • pre- and post-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP and PEP)
  • primary and specialty medical care
  • mental health services
  • social work assistance
  • educational workshops, support groups, and social activities
  • culturally competent and sensitive services for members of the LGBTQ+ community
  • peer mentoring, support, and advocacy

The Youth and Young Adult Specialized Care Center is part of the Upper/Lower New York City Consortium for Families. Since 1991, the consortium has provided family-centered, comprehensive HIV/AIDS primary and specialty care, mental health, and supportive services to women, children, and young adults with HIV infection, as well as affected family members, in Staten Island and Manhattan. The consortium also provides preventive services to youth at high risk of contracting HIV or other sexually transmitted infections.
