NYU Langone’s Department of Neurology offers a five-year, Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME)–accredited categorical child neurology residency training program. We are committed to excellent clinical training that emphasizes well-balanced, hands-on experience in neurology. Residents receive exposure to a broad patient base and a diverse faculty. Our residents rotate in five hospitals: Hassenfeld Children’s Hospital—34th Street, NYU Langone’s Tisch Hospital, NYU Langone Orthopedic Hospital, NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue, and the Manhattan campus of the VA NY Harbor Healthcare System. We encourage residents to pursue both basic science and clinical research during their residency.

Our program typically accepts two categorical residents each year. We only accept applications through the Electronic Residency Application Service^® (ERAS^®). You submit a standardized application; letters of recommendation; your Medical Student Performance Evaluation (MSPE), sometimes called a dean’s letter; transcripts; and other supporting documents through ERAS^®. We offer positions to selected applicants through the National Resident Matching Program^® (NRMP^®; The Match^®).

The categorical position includes two preliminary years in pediatrics in conjunction with the pediatric residency program in the Department of Pediatrics. The residency begins in the academic year immediately following the application process.

Application Requirements

Your application should include the following:

• U.S. Medical Licensing Examination^® (USMLE^®) Step 1 test scores (a minimum USMLE^® Step 1 score of 200 is required)
• MSPE
• your medical school transcript
• three or more letters of recommendation
• personal statement
• photograph
• your CV

We invite selected applicants for interviews primarily in the months of November and December. You are welcome to make a second visit after the interview.

NYU Langone does not offer H-1B visa sponsorship for house staff, residents, or fellows, although the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates^® (ECFMG^®) can arrange J-1 visa sponsorship.
