Research Overview

Geriatrics is a new field that requires organization and networking amongst various disciplines and research.

With the help of modern medicine people are living longer. The possibility for these lives to be healthier and more comfortable is within reach.

Too often the elderly are left out of important research studies that may benefit their health. As a result of this, the elderly are often treated the same as younger adults.

Because of the alterations in physiology and the change in social roles that occur with aging this is not prudent. We believe that the possibility for the elderly to age in a healthy way will become realized when research designed to target this particular age group becomes more prevalent. We are striving to bring about this possibility and to be at the forefront of this work.

Screening and assessment algorithms and comprehensive falls prevention programs that address identified risks have been clearly demonstrated. Nevertheless, widespread adoption of effective falls prevention measures has not
