Dermatology Medical Student Training

NYU Langone’s Ronald O. Perelman Department of Dermatology offers medical students an elective in general dermatology that includes active participation in ambulatory clinics and the inpatient consultation service.

General Dermatology Elective

The General Dermatology Elective provides medical students with exposure to many aspects of dermatologic diagnosis and treatment through active participation in our main dermatology outpatient clinic and inpatient consults. Students receive training in how to manage basic and complex dermatologic conditions.

Your rotations occur mostly in NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue Ambulatory Care Center. You have the opportunity to rotate throughout subspecialty clinics, including cutaneous lymphoma, hair, vulvar disease, Hansen’s disease, connective tissue disease, dermatologic surgery, and wound care clinic. You also attend an in-depth lecture series at the VA NY Harbor Healthcare System given by our senior residents, and daily teaching conferences.

Upon competition of the elective, you are able to properly perform a history and physical examination of patients with skin diseases, and recognize and treat common skin conditions. Learn more about the General Dermatology Elective.
