Microlaryngoscopy

Microlaryngoscopy refers to a technique used in surgery of the vocal cords. Using specialized instruments and a surgical microscope, highly magnified views of the vocal cords and surrounding regions are obtained. Surgical removal of lesions is performed under this high magnification with specially designed microinstruments using microflap technique. Surgery performed with this technique is believed to be beneficial to the patient by decreasing healing time and leading to a better postoperative voice outcome.

Example of microlaryngoscopy. This polyp is actually a few millimeters in size, but is magnified using a microscope, and is removed with microinstruments. This technique allows minimal damage to surrounding tissues, and improves healing time.
