Division of Bariatric Surgery

NYU Langone Health’s Division of Bariatric Surgery in the Department of Surgery offers exceptional patient care, conducts research that advances the field, and provides training to the next generation of bariatric surgeons.

Our Clinical Excellence

Our Weight Management Program is a comprehensive program designed to meet the medical, surgical, and emotional needs of patients with severe obesity. Our surgeons are among the most experienced in the country, with surgical outcomes that are among the best nationwide.

Care for Adolescents

Like adults, adolescents with obesity face a high risk of serious medical disorders, including hypertension, diabetes, respiratory disorders, accelerated growth, high cholesterol, musculoskeletal problems, psychosocial problems, and cancer, as well as a greater chance of premature death. Unfortunately, obesity is rarely something children grow out of. Obesity generally persists into adulthood.

It is imperative to address obesity at an early age; however, little data are available to guide parents and physicians trying to help adolescents with morbid obesity. Our expert team includes not only medical experts and surgeons, but also pediatric endocrinologists, pulmonologists, cardiologists, and psychologists, who collaborate to offer the best care available to these adolescents. Care for adolescents is managed by Jun Tashiro, MD, MPH, in our Division of Pediatric Surgery.

Education in Bariatric Surgery

Our one-year Bariatric and Minimally Invasive Surgery Fellowship provides training to two fellows in the most advanced laparoscopic and endoscopic procedures.

Our division also offers a Minimally Invasive and Bariatric Surgery Research Fellowship. To learn more about this opportunity, contact Beth Abrams, division administrator, at Beth.Abrams@NYULangone.org.
