You must seek medical attention immediately if you experience a needlestick or contamination by body fluids. It is imperative that you seek medical care with the first four hours.
Immediate treatment can be life saving. Come to the Student Health Service.
Immediately following the injury, contact your Resident or Attending physician. Find out as much as possible about the source patient, including possible risk factors for communicable diseases. This information is important in determining whether you will need treatment.
If the Student Health Service is not open, go to the Emergency Room of the hospital in which the injury occurred.
At Bellevue or Tisch Hospital, DO NOT go to the Employee Health Service. You are a student, not an employee. This is not a workman compensation issue.
Regardless of where you receive your initial care, all follow-up care for occupational injuries is done at the Student Health Service. Contact Student Health to inform them of your incident.
Contact Student Health at 212-263-5489.
