Funding Opportunities
Although the School of Medicine
strongly encourages participation in international health projects,
we cannot fund every request for travel nor the entire cost
of projects.
Students should anticipate paying out-of-pocket some of the
expenses incurred. Students may want to consider alternate ways
such as fundraising and requesting money from academic departments
to supplement unfunded costs. Students may be eligible for one
of our available funding sources. Several of the School's funding
sources are identified below.
Application approval does not
guarantee funding. A budget and travel expense breakdown must
be included with the application. A limited amount of grants/awards
are available. NYU sponsored programs receive priority for funding
allocations.
Note: Only programs that are
Institutional Review Board (IRB) approved will receive funding.
- Preclinical students
Preclinical students may be funded up to 75% of their total cost for NYU
sponsored programs with an award maximum of $2,000. For Non-NYU sponsored
programs, funding may be significantly less and will be determined by the
OSA based on the submitted application.
- Clinical Students
Clinical students may be funded up to 75% of their total cost for NYU sponsored
programs with an award maximum of $2,400. For Non-NYU sponsored programs,
funding may be significantly less and will be determined by the OSA based
on the submitted application.
Please refer to the International Opportunities database
to get a list of potential programs (NYU sponsored and Non-NYU sponsored).
Distribution of money will be determined by the Office of Student Affairs (OSA)
and is dependent upon submission of all required materials. Funding may be
revoked for incomplete projects.
- Pinkerton Foundation
The Pinkerton Foundation established an endowment that the School of Medicine
uses to provide awards to our preclinical students who participate in outstanding
international health research, public health, and/or epidemiological projects.
- Milton B. Rosenbluth Foundation Travel Grant
The Rosenbluth Foundation awards clinical students who undertake an elective
clinical/research project for a minimum of one month in a developing county
with a travel grant up to $2,000.
