This fall the Master Scholars Program is continuing its series of extracurricular Seminars related to art and humanism in medicine. Moderated by expert facilitators, these are a great opportunity to explore academic interests generally not covered in core classes. The majority of these seminars are open to students, faculty, and staff at the NYU School of Medicine.

- A waitlist will be available for Seminars that have reached capacity.

Art and Anatomy (Medical Students Only)

Description: In these non-judgmental and process-oriented sessions, with skeletons and cadavers as our models, drawing will be presented as an ideal way to learn, to become a better observer, and for those who desire, to give expression to the emotional side of dealing with illness and death.

Business in Healthcare

The CHEF: Cook Healthy Eat Fresh (Medical Students Only)

Description: This seminar is intended to create a hands-on, educational environment in which medical students will learn basic culinary tips and techniques while gaining an appreciation of the diverse foods that can make up a healthy diet. Nutritionists and physicians will draw clinical correlations between the cooking classes and educating patients about nutrition and healthy eating behaviors. Discussions will range from the spices of different ethnic cuisines to cooking flavorful food on a medical student’s budget. The ultimate goal of these seminars is to make delicious, healthy foods seem more accessible to medical students, and, through culinary and nutritional education, to make students confident in talking to patients about their food-related health.

Each level is taught consecutively and interested individuals may attend both levels. Students who attend 6-8 classes will received a Certificate of Completion.
