Whatever you're looking for, the Office of Student Affairs (OSA)
is a great place to start. OSA staff are extremely knowledgeable
about issues that affect students' lives both inside and outside
the classroom. And even when they don't know the answer, they can
almost always point you in the right direction. Through a series
of initiatives designed to positively affect the quality of life
for students, the Office of Student Affairs provides the link between
the classroom and the community. It has four primary areas of focus:
Activities
Many students become involved in clubs or organizations while at
the School of Medicine . And with over 50 clubs to choose from there
is no shortage of ways to become involved or events to become involved
or events in which to participate. The Office of Student Affairs
provides support and advisement to these organizations and, in turn,
assists students in making the most of them.
The office also works with student groups to develop and carry-out
a wide variety of community service projects throughout the year.
Through the Office of Student Activities, a subdivision of Student
Affairs, students (as well as staff) are provided with discounted
recreational opportunities that range from Broadway shows to movie
tickets in and around New York City . This office can also assist
students in planning and arranging many student functions on and
off-campus.
Policies and Procedures
The Office of Student Affairs informs students about policies and
procedures that impact their lives. The office will also work with
students to develop policies that are important to them or that
impact the quality of student life. The office also works closely
with other administrative departments to facilitate the implementation
of new initiatives or to advocate on behalf of students for improvements
or changes to services.
Academic Advising and Support
Assisting students in making career and life decisions is one of
the most important responsibilities we have. Students can come to
the Office of Student Affairs to obtain advising on residencies,
basic science concerns, clinical matters, study habits or to simply
find a listening ear. The Office also assists students in complementing
their academic experiences by providing resources for summer and
international job opportunities, elective opportunities, community
service projects or research projects.
