Lifestyle changes to prevent a stroke: quit smoke, eat a healthful diet, exercise regularly, lose weight if you are overweight or obese, drink alcohol only in moderation, manage blood sugar if you have diabetes.
Stroke Medications
Prescription stroke medications, including recombinant tissue plasminogen activator (rt-PA); anticoagulants heparin, warfarin (Coumadin), aspirin; drugs to reduce brain swelling like glucocorticoids (cortisone-like drugs, steroids), mannitol; nerve-protecting drugs.
Other Stroke Treatments
Physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy to treat stroke damage, stroke impairment, and stroke debilitation.
