The First Stroke Center in New York City
The NYU Stroke Center was established in 2003 to facilitate rapid diagnosis and effective intervention in order to prevent death and reduce disability from stroke.
NYU Medical Center is the first hospital in Manhattan to be designated a Primary Stroke Center by the New York State Department of Health, recognized for its outstanding efforts in stroke prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and research.
The NYU Stroke Center integrates all departmental services in the hospital that provide care to stroke victims and their families. In the Emergency Department, a new technology CT scanner provides speed and accuracy in diagnosis that facilitates best treatment.
The NYU Stroke Center also focuses on public education programs to identify individuals at risk of stroke, such as those who smoke, have hypertension, high cholesterol, diabetes, and heart disease.
