K01 Mentored Research Scientist Development Award
Provides support for n intensive, supervised career experience leading to research independence. This award is targeted to researchers with postdoctoral research experience who need mentored experience to succeed in an outlined plan to achieve independent research support by the end of the award period. The annual salary is determined by the sponsoring institution. Candidates are expected to devote 75% of their working hours to research related to this award. The award period is from three to five years.

K08 Mentored Clinical Scientist Development Award
Provides support for the development of outstanding clinician research scientists who are committed to a career in laboratory or field based research. This award is intended for candidates who are interested primarily in basic research. This award is targeted to researchers with postdoctoral research experience who need mentored experience to succeed in an outlined plan to achieve independent research support by the end of the award period. The annual salary is determined by the sponsoring institution. Candidates are expected to devote 75% of their working hours to research related to this award. This award replaces the old K08, K11, and K15 awards. The award period is from three to five years.

K22 Career Transition Award
Provides support for outstanding investigators to begin their independent research careers first within a sponsoring NIH Center or Institute for three to four years at which point they will receive two years of extramural support at the institution to which they are recruited. Candidates should have a doctoral degree or equivalent and no more than five years of postdoctoral research training at the time of application. The annual salary is determined by the sponsoring institution. Candidates are expected to devote 75% of their working hours to research related to this award. The award period is from three to four years.

K23 Mentored Patient Oriented Research Career Development Award.
Provides support for the career development of investigators who have made a commitment to focus their research endeavors on patient-oriented research. This mechanism provides support intended to help clinically trained professionals who have a degree to train with an established independent mentor to become productive independent clinical investigators in patient-oriented research. Candidates should have a clinical doctoral degree or equivalent and must have completed their clinical training including specialty and have no more than five years of postdoctoral research training at the time of application. The annual salary is determined by the sponsoring institution. Candidates are expected to devote 75% of their working hours to research related to this award. The award period is from three to five years.

K25 Mentored Quantitative Research Career Development Award
Provides support to foster interdisciplinary collaboration in biomedical research. The target candidates have an advanced degree in a quantitative area of science or engineering who intend to lead multi-disciplinary research teams. The annual salary is up to $75,000 per annum. Because this is a full professional effort award, time conducting additional research directly related to this award is subsumed under the salary support already provided by the K25 Award. Candidates are expected to devote 75% of their working hours to research related to this award. This is a new award. The award period is from three to five years.
