The Scholars and Intramural Programs are highly competitive and prestigious award programs that support new investigators with outstanding promise in basic and clinical sciences, or distinguished investigators in mid-career. Application to these programs is by invitation only and/or a limited number of candidates can apply. The Biomedical Research Support Committee (BRSC) selects School of Medicine candidates for these programs.

Purpose:

The E.D. Thomas Fellowship is intended to provide postdoctoral fellowship support for up to three years for fellows embarking on a research career in leukemia and related hematologic malignancies.

Eligibility

• Candidates must:

• Have either:

• An M.D. Degree.

(And / or)

• A Ph.D. Degree.

• Have at least three years but less than ten years postdoctoral experience.

• Agree to spend 80% of professional effort to the award project.

• Have the institutional resource committment needed to perform the proposed award project.

• Have the proper academic and programmatic support needed to perform the proposed award project.

• Funding for second and third year renewals are subject to review of performance during the previous awarded project period as determined by the sponsor.

• Only one candidate from NYU will be selected internally to apply for this award.

Value:

• Total award amount is $50,000.

• Up to $35,000 may be used for salary support including fringe benefits.

• Up to 8% may be used for Facilities and Administrative Expenses.

• The remaining amount after deduction of salary, fringe benefits, and Facilities and Administrative Expenses may be used for equipment and / or supplies.

• The award period is one year.

• The award is renewable for a second and third year..

• Funding for second and third year renewals are subject to review of performance during the previous awarded project period as determined by the sponsor.
