Dear Program Directors:
This
is to advise you that the start date for the 2005-06 academic
year will be Monday,
June 27, 2005. This is consistent with the policy adopted two
years ago by the GMEC that the start date would be the first Monday, prior
to July 1. We realize that some incoming house staff, particularly those
in advanced specialty programs may have difficulty arriving by that date. Please
notify all entering house staff of this information immediately
so that we can minimize the number of house staff affected in this way. This
means that the final day of the 2004-05 academic year will be Sunday, June
26, 2005. Current house staff will either be terminated as
of that date or promoted to the next PGY level on June 27 th.. In
cases where incoming house staff are unable to arrive until after
June 27th, you may need to delay termination until new house staff arrive
if your programs require service coverage.
We are
planning for an on-line orientation program with some scheduled events (such
as Bellevue mandates day) during the week of June 20-24 th. Elimination
of the 2 day in person orientation program will allow more time for such things
as health screening, benefits assignment, computer training, and HR paperwork
completion. It will also enable in coming house officers to complete
orientation programs on their own time. We hope this new approach will
be successful and look forward to your participation.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
