As per the forwarded message below from Vice Dean Richard Levin to the faculty, notification of the 2005 Faculty Salary Survey has now been sent.  The survey responses are due by Friday, December 16, which gives your faculty six weeks to complete what will almost certainly take them no more than 1o minutes. 

Please keep track of their progress through your access as Departmental Administrators, and where encouragement (or shall we say "prodding") is needed, please do so!

Subject: Triennial Salary Survey - response due Friday, December 16, 2005

To the Faculty:

 As we did first in 2002-03, we begin today the triennial Faculty Salary Survey. The completion of this survey is required by the Compliance Committee of the New York University Board of Trustees to satisfy federal regulations. It is designed to fulfill our obligation as a tax-exempt organization that we provide reasonable compensation to our faculty for services rendered.

 All Faculty members who are compensated on a full- or part-time basis by the School of Medicine, that is, received a check other than for expense reimbursement from the School in calendar year 2004, are receiving this notice and must complete the survey.

The survey has been simplified and improved and the Web site where it resides is: http://tools.med.nyu.edu/facultysurvey .  It should be accessible to you from any location. From some locations, you may get one or more messages about security certificates or other security issues. Just respond that you wish to continue. When asked for your user name and password, please enter your Kerberos ID and e-mail password.

The Web survey is secure. Your answers will be kept on file and will be reviewed internally only by Departmental and University officials who have signed a security pledge. 

The “Responsibilities” section will be validated by, or in consultation with, your Department Chair. Any item to which you respond with a “Yes” must include a brief description of the scope and nature of your duties, responsibilities, and services for which the School of Medicine specifically compensates you.

Professional activities compensated by private practice, a hospital, an outside entity or others not paid through the School of Medicine are not to be included here.  For these purposes, and in general, compensation by the School for clinical practice is limited to faculty group practices, hospital and clinic services, including our affiliated hospitals, but again, only when salary is paid through the School of Medicine.
