Building Exteriors
Local Law 11/98 of the New York City Building Code requires the examination and repair of all building exteriors to provide safety for pedestrians and staff. NYU Medical Center has retained the services of a licensed architect and filed the appropriate certifications to the building department.
As part of those certifications, a significant amount of exterior masonry repair is required. As such, Facilities Management retained the services of masonry contractors to make these repairs for the superblock buildings and Greenberg Hall. We have begun by mobilizing the contractor on Skirball, Health Care Center, Tisch Hospital and Medical Science Buildings. The masonry demolition work will cause some noise and some vibration. Prior to starting the work a representative from Facilities Management will tour the areas to be affected to assess the level of impact caused by the work. Please contact Facilities Management if during the work the disturbance is unacceptable.
The tentative work schedule work is as follows:
Tisch Hospital – June 27, 2005 through November 15, 2005
Medical Science Building – June 13, 2005 through September 12, 2005
Health Care Center - June 11, 2005 through July 11, 2005
Skirball Building – June 20, 2005 through by August 10, 2005
Rusk Institute - July 18, 2005 through August 15, 2005
Perelman (Rusk Research) - July 18, 2005 through August 15, 2005
Greenberg Hall - July 18, 2005 through December 16, 2005
This work includes installation of side walk protective bridges over the sidewalk and courtyards of affected buildings. In addition, contractors will be working on the outside of the building from hanging scaffolds. Facilities Management staff will work with all building occupants to address privacy, noise and vibration concerns. Notifications and communications will be issued weekly to affected staff.
Please contact Christopher Pedersen, Senior Project Manager for this effort, at x3-3189 or via FacilitiesManagement@nyumc.org if there are any questions.
