Housing for Medical & MD/PhD Students

The Real Estate and Housing division works with Admissions, Student Affairs, and other School of Medicine offices to coordinate housing accommodations for students.

The Property Management team oversees matters such as furniture, repairs and maintenance, keys, etc. If your building superintendent cannot assist with these issues, contact Edward.Berman@nyumc.org or Luis.Rodriguez@nyumc.org.

Housing charges for medical students will appear on students' Bursar billing statements; MD-PHD students pay housing charges via payroll deduction from their stipends. Billing matters are overseen by a Finance Operations staff. Email questions to redf.finance@nyumc.org.

Housing Services oversees housing applications, assignments, housing licenses ("leases"), move-in or vacating procedures, the annual Housing Lottery, and mail distribution at on-campus buildings: housing@nyumc.org.

Single students are assured of receiving housing offers when first matriculating. Accommodations for student couples are not guaranteed. Students living off-campus who wish to move into NYULMC housing may participate in the annual Housing Lottery. Requests to move into NYULMC mid-year are subject to a waiting list and availability.

Newly-accepted students should submit housing applications and the application fee payment to Housing Services as soon as possible. Assignments for new students are made on a first-come, first served basis.

Housing locations available to new medical students include Vilcek Hall (334 East 26th Street) and Greenberg Hall (545 First Avenue). Building and apartment assignments are subject to change. Residential buildings for medical students have 24-hour lobby staffing and laundry rooms.

Neither smoking nor pets are permitted in NYU School of Medicine student housing.

Once living in NYULMC housing, a student may continue in NYULMC housing through graduation, as long as the student remains eligible. Non-graduating students have one annual option to terminate their housing licenses at the end of the license term (June 30), with appropriate advance notice.

Eligible students may try to change their NYULMC housing for the following year, within the annual Housing Lottery policy and procedures. Information regarding the Housing Lottery is provided to all students early in the calendar year.
