Graduate & Postdoctoral Fellow Diversity Recruitment

We are committed to increasing and supporting the diversity of graduate students and postdoctoral fellows at NYU Grossman School of Medicine. The Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion for the Research Mission team at NYU Langone promotes initiatives to help all trainees thrive in our inclusive research community.

PhD Program Diversity

The PhD program at Vilcek Institute of Graduate Biomedical Sciences actively recruits and improves retention of underrepresented minorities by nurturing diversity. The program has experienced a significant increase in the number of underrepresented students who applied and matriculated to graduate programs at NYU Grossman School of Medicine.

MD/PhD Program Diversity

Our MD/PhD program prepares outstanding physician–scientists for challenges in scientific research and clinical practice. The lab and the clinic each requires a distinctive combination of art and science, which the program nourishes at NYU Grossman School of Medicine.

Through targeted outreach and attendance at recruitment fairs, the Office of Diversity Affairs partners with Vilcek Institute of Graduate Biomedical Sciences to recruit a diverse and talented group of MD/PhD candidates.

Postdoctoral Program Diversity

NYU Grossman School of Medicine’s postdoctoral training program provides resources and training to postdoctoral fellows, helping them progress in their chosen careers, recognizing that fewer than 20 percent of postdoctoral fellows have tenure-track faculty careers. Events include career panels on science writing, education, communication, and jobs in government, academia, policy, and nonprofit organizations.

Two-thirds of our postdocs are non-U.S. citizens, hailing from more than 35 countries on 6 continents. We recruit and support this diverse body of postdoctoral scholars.
