Dental Health Insurance
The student health insurance through United HealthCare does not include specific dental services. However, the School of Medicine Benefits Services Department does provide an optional dental plan through Cigna HMO.
For the 2016-2017 academic year (9/1–8/31) the charge for Cigna HMO is:
Individual Plan: $191.28
Family Plan: $455.88
Students who elect Cigna DHMO will see the charges reflected in the tuition bill early in the fall semester.
Cigna DHMO offers
- Comprehensive and affordable dental coverage for you and your eligible dependent(s)
- Access to an extensive network of dentists that participate with Cigna DHMO ( Please note that this plan does not cover any services provided by a non-network dentist. )
- User-friendly website that can be accessed at your convenience

Enrolling for Dental Coverage
The Open Enrollment period for the 2016–2017 academic year is August 4–September 7, 2016. The enrollment period is only open once per year and is handled by the Benefits Services Department through an on-line enrollment process. This is an opt-in only plan. Students who do not elect the Cigna dental plan during the open enrollment period will not be covered for the next academic year. To access the dental enrollment website, click here and enter your Kerberos ID and password.
Once Coverage becomes Effective
Once enrolled, your CIGNA Dental HMO plan coverage will be in effect during the entire academic year and cannot be changed or dropped unless you experience a qualifying event (i.e. Leave of Absence). If you choose not to elect coverage for the academic year you must wait until the next enrollment period/academic year to enroll.
Once you are enrolled, you will receive a Cigna ID card to use when you go to a participating dentist.
