South Asians Engaging in Heart Disease Awareness and Treatment (SAEHAT)

The rate of cardiovascular disease among South Asians is the highest in the world. Hypertension (elevated blood pressure) is a major risk factor for heart disease and stroke. Elevated blood pressure puts South Asians at an extremely high cardiovascular disease risk. SAHI addresses these disparities in cardiovascular disease through South Asians Engaging in Heart Disease Awareness and Treatment (SAEHAT). SAEHAT engages community members to increase their knowledge of cardiovascular risk factors and connects those with such factors with medical professionals to control their blood pressure, and to screen for and treat additional cardiovascular risk factors.
