Photomedicine involves the use of ultraviolet light to treat patients with various chronic skin conditions. Some of these disorders include psoriasis, mycosis fungoides, vitliligo, atopic dermatitis and pruritus among others
Several types of ultraviolet light: broad-band and narrow band ultraviolet b photoptherapy, psoralen plus ultraviolet light a (PUVA) and photochemotherapy are used to treat our patients. Upon consultation with a resident and attending physician in the Skin and Cancer Department, the type of light necessary will be determined
Treatment initially involves visits to our clinic several times weekly and usually decreases as improvement is seen. There are many hours available for appointments, from early morning to late evenings.
