Microbiology

The NYU graduate training program in Microbiology prepares doctoral candidates for careers in the biology of microorganisms and infectious disease processes. Laboratory training is offered in the fields of prokaryotic and eukaryotic microbial and molecular genetics; mechanisms of microbial and parasite pathogenicity and host resistance to infectious agents; molecular, cellular, and immunological phenomena associated with microbial colonization and infection; and microbiome biology. The classroom curriculum emphasizes the molecular aspects of pathogenesis, with courses in cell and molecular biology, bacterial pathogenesis, virology, parasitology, medical microbiology, immunology, and macromolecular mechanisms.
