Arabidopsis thaliana is a small flowering plant that is widely used by plant science researchers. It is a member of the Brassica family, which includes species such as cabbage and radish. Its rapid life cycle and easy cultivation has enabled it to be adapted to laboratory studies. Genetic research is facilitated by easy transformation methods and a large number of existing mutant lines. The complete sequence of its genome was published at the end of the year 2000.
