Ongoing feedback is provided as appropriate to patient and/or family (depending on patient's developmental level) to address psychological and neuropsychological issues and progress. In addition, formal feedback on full neuropsychological evaluations is given in conjunction with family meetings with the attending physiatrist and social work department. Neuropsychological evaluation reports are written prior to discharge and forwarded to relevant agencies when appropriate.
The Psychology Service takes an active role in participating with the patient, family, and interdisciplinary team in addressing goals and plans for discharge. The service takes into account psychological adjustment and coping issues, as well as cognitive and educational needs or modifications. Consultation with schools and outside agencies are made when appropriate.
If outpatient psychotherapy (group or individual), cognitive remediation
and/or neuropsychological evaluations are required and can be done at Rusk,
all efforts are made for there to be continuity in the therapist treating
the patient. If this is not possible, all efforts are made to introduce the
new therapist to the patient and family prior to transfer. If treatment will
be conducted in an outside agency, consultations with the treating therapist
are made as appropriate.
