Inpatient and Outpatient Services

Inpatient Services

• Occupational therapy is provided to all inpatients on a referral basis.

• The evaluation and treatment includes the patient, the family, and collaboration with any outside treating clinicians when possible.

• Treatment is provided on an individual basis. Group treatment in the areas of feeding, play, and cognition as well as horticulture treatment may also be part of the patient's occupational therapy program.

• Pediatric-size wheelchairs are provided for use and training during the child's in-patient stay. When needed, customized seating systems are fabricated, constructed, and provided.

• When requested, occupational therapy evaluations, progress reports, and discharge reports may be forwarded to the child's school or agency upon discharge.

Outpatient Services

• A physician's prescription is required for all outpatient evaluations and treatment.

• The Pediatric Occupational Therapy Unit accepts private insurance, New York City Board of Education contracts, Early Intervention, Medicaid, or self-payment.
Various assessment tools are used depending on the diagnosis and needs of the patient. Results are shared with the family and other team members when applicable.

• CPSE (Committee on Preschool Education) evaluations are done on site when the referral is received through Rusk's Early Intervention program.
