The Seating and Power Mobility Program offers a specialized service for individuals requiring power mobility and custom seating. Power mobility encompasses all motorized wheelchairs and scooters. The goal of the program is to provide appropriate technology in order to facilitate independent living, employment, recreation, education and health management. Comprehensive evaluations, equipment recommendations, equipment trials/simulations, training and clinical follow-up are all crucial to the success of the program.
After the evaluation, interventions may include modifications to existing systems, recommendations for a new power wheelchair/seating system or scooter and training for performance competency.
Proper seating can improve posture, skin integrity, energy levels and comfort. These gains coupled with independent mobility can maximize function and participation during home, work and community activities, enabling individuals with disabilities to maintain active lifestyles.
