The Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program treats patients with lung disease. Respiratory patients, following an acute exacerbation or whose chronic respiratory problem prevents them from being cared for at home, are all candidates for inpatient or outpatient pulmonary rehabilitation.
The goals of this program include: improved understanding through education of the basic disease and types of treatment, reduction of apprehension through better control of breathing, reduction of complications, improvement of exercise tolerance and endurance through supervised exercise training.
An individual rehabilitation program is developed under the direction
of a physiatrist in cooperation with the patient's pulmonary internist.
This program includes physical therapy, occupational therapy, psychological
evaluation and counseling, dietary counseling, oxygen therapy, mechanical
ventilation, and an independent living experience.
