Patients with a variety of neurologic disorders, such as multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, or Guillian-Barre syndrome benefit from the comprehensive care provided at Rusk Institute. Physicians with expertise in the rehabilitation of these conditions and prevention of complications lead the team in treating the patients. Their goal is to maximize their functional performance and overall well-being.
Brain Tumor Related Disabilities Rusk Institute offers a full range of rehabilitation services to both inpatient and outpatients with disabilities related to a brain tumor. Following a comprehensive evaluation by the physiatrist and the rehabilitation team, a restorative program is designed to address the needs of both the patient and family. Special attention is given to motor, cognitive and communication skills. When appropriate, problems with swallowing, coordination, pain management, psychological adjustment, vocational exploration, family counseling and support are also addressed.
While undergoing rehabilitation, patients may continue to be followed by their neurologist, oncologist, or surgeon. In some cases patients continue to receive radiation therapy and/or chemotherapy as indicated.
