Support Group Services for Patients and Families at Rusk Institute

Focus on Families is a program of the Social Work Department at the Rusk Institute of Rehabilitation Medicine. It helps patients and their families prepare for convalescence and recovery at home through educational and psychological support services. Many family members feel unprepared to assume the responsibility of caregiving. By providing family-oriented services, the program helps family members manage illness and disability, solve illness-related problems, and improve quality of life. A series of free educational workshops and support groups for patients and caregivers are currently offered at NYU Medical Center.

Following are descriptions of the services offered by Focus on Families.

Monthly Support Group for Family Caregivers of Persons with Parkinson's Disease

Monthly Support Group for Family Caregivers of Persons with Acquired Brain Injury

Semimonthly Support Group for Family Caregivers of Persons with Cancer

Weekly Telephone Support Group for Family Caregivers
