Rusk Hosts Community Education & Screening Events for Stroke Awareness Month

Every 40 seconds, someone in the United States has a stroke. Men and women of all ages and every background are affected by this life-altering condition.

As part of National Stroke Awareness Month, Rusk Rehabilitation and the Comprehensive Stroke Care Center is offering a series of community health fairs and educational lectures. Learn what causes a stroke, how to reduce your risk, and the latest in stroke care from the experts at NYU Langone.

Friday, May 1711 am-2 pm • Farkas Breezeway--NYU Langone Medical Center (550 First Ave) • Free stroke risk screening and counseling session • blood pressure check • cholesterol test for first 30 attendees • educational material & giveaways • info about the continuum of stroke care at NYU Langone including Rusk Rehab, Critical Care, Integrative Health, Neuroscience, Stroke Research, and others

Thursday, May 3011 am-2 pm • Ambulatory Care Center (240 E. 38th St) • Educational material & giveaways • open house tour of Rusk’s Motor Recovery Research Laboratory from Lab Director, Dr. Preeti Raghavan (tour offered until 3 pm)

Community Lecture:  K{no}w Stroke—Risk, Prevention, and Care in All Ages and Communities

Friday, May 1712-1pm • Farkas Auditorium-NYU Langone Medical Center (550 First Ave)•  Physician experts will present on stroke risk factors in varying communities, prevention, treatment and recovery, followed by Q&A with the physicians and Rusk therapists.

Speakers: Keith Siller, MD, (Comprehensive Stroke Care Center); Olugbenga Ogedegbe, MD, MPH (Population Health); and Ira Rashbaum, MD (Rusk Stroke Rehab)
