Information for Research Volunteers
The New York University School of Medicine Human Research Protection Program has developed this web page to provide you with additional information regarding participation in research. Please use the links below to find answers to questions about participation in research.
New York University Medical Center is composed of New York University School of Medicine and New York University Hospital Centers. The Hospital Center comprises Tisch Hospital, Rusk Institute of Rehabilitation Medicine, and NYU Hospital for Joint Diseases. Research may take place in many locations around New York University Medical Center and its affiliate locations: Bellevue Hospital, Veterans Affairs Hospital and Gouverneur Healthcare Services. If you are considering a research study, remember that participation is completely voluntary – you can choose not to participate, and if you do decide to participate, you can choose to stop participating at any time.
Please take a moment to review this web page and also read the Bill of Rights for Research Volunteers. This document summarizes the rights you have as a research volunteer.
Additionally, the National Institutes of Health sponsors a web site, called Clinical Trials. This web site provides information to the public about clinical research studies.
There are other sources of information about ongoing research known as “clinical trials” that can acquaint you with research about special topics. One on-line document is entitled “Should I enter a Clinical Trial – A Patient Reference Guide for Adults with a Serious or Life-Threatening Illness”.
Some of your questions may be answered under our Frequently Asked Questions. If you have additional questions you may call the Office of the Institutional Review Board at 212-263-4110.
