Site-specific mutagenesis

Opinder S. Bhanot Ph.D.

Department of Environmental Medicine

Research Summary
Dr. Bhanot's studies the molecular mechanisms by which carcinogens produce mutations and contribute to the process of neoplasia. The studies involve determination of mutagenic effects of carcinogen-induced DNA modifications, using site-specific mutagenesis in bacteria and human cells. Mutagenic lesions produced by carcinogen-induced DNA damage have been implicated in the neoplastic transformation of target cells. The studies are designed to define the role of specific DNA damage in mutagenesis, oncogene activation and ultimately, carcinogenesis. Representative
