Hospital and Patient care
About Us

Along with patient care and education, the search for new medical knowledge is a vital component of the mission of NYU School of Medicine. Throughout the School's history faculty members have produced groundbreaking discoveries, including some that have led to a Nobel Prize. Our many basic and clinical research programs are among the best in the world, and we invest seriously in our research staff, laboratories, and equipment. NYU's research institutes and centers investigate the causes and treatments of cancer, AIDS, infectious diseases, cardiovascular disease, genetic disorders, Alzheimer's disease, and many other illnesses that continue to affect the health of people in this country and worldwide. Foremost among our comprehensive facilities are the Skirball Institute for Biomolecular Research, our prestigious basic science facility dedicated to advancing the understanding of the molecular functioning of living organisms; and the new Joan and Joel Smilow Research Center, which houses interdisciplinary translational research programs closely linked to the School's academic departments.
