RERC's research goals are to develop
knowledge, equipment, and techniques that facilitate and expedite
the rehabilitation of physically impaired, enabling them to lead
more comfortable, functional and independent lives.
Located in the VA Medical Center's NYHHS campus in Manhattan, our
laboratory's research includes a broad range of areas, including:
• using Computer Aided Design &
Manufacturing (CAD/CAM) for prostheses, orthoses, and custom orthopedic
footwear;
• computer modeling of the mechanical
properties of tissue and finite element analysis of its response
to loading;
• gait analysis of lower limb amputees,
orthosis and pedorthics patients;
• development of tests and instrumentation
for assessment of the biomechanical factors for risk of pedal ulceration
and potential limb amputation in diabetic patients.
