Bellevue Hospital...

Bellevue Hospital is located at 28th Street and First Avenue and is listed as a Level 1 trauma center. As such, the Rehabilitation service has close ties to the acute services including Neurosurgery and Orthopedics.

Residents assigned to Bellevue cover the inpatient floor and attend daily outpatient clinics. Clinics include: pediatrics, prosthetics and orthotics; wheelchair and equipment; acupuncture, and general PM&R.

The inpatient service is divided between general rehabilitation and a traumatic brain injury unit, where residents learn how to manage the unique rehabilitation issues of persons with brain injury. Consults are completed by the Chief resident.

Didactics compliment the clinical experience. Residents attend Tuesday afternoon lectures at Rusk and there are daily post round teaching sessions. Journal club is held each week.

Orthopedic Institute - Hospital for Joint Disease...

OI-HJD is located at 17th Street and 2nd Avenue and is considered a center of excellence in the management of bone disorders. Residents are involved in acute inpatient orthopedic rehabilitation, the pain management service and outpatient clinics.

The pain management service provides an in-depth understanding of acute and chronic pain management. Residents are involved in ward rounds, counseling sessions and in the prescription of medications and modalities (including injection techniques) to manage the pain syndrome. Outpatient clinics include: pain management; general; sports medicine.

Residents on the orthopedic rehab floors admit post op orthopedic patients including total hip and knee replacement and spine surgery. There are daily post round lectures, weekly Journal club and residents attend the lecture series at Rusk on Tuesday afternoons.

The Veterans Administration Hospital...

The VA is located in Manhattan at 23rd Street and 1st Avenue and in the Bay Ridge section of Brooklyn .

At the Manhattan VA, residents care for patients on the inpatient rehab floor and attend daily outpatient clinics. Clinics include: shoe; orthotics and prosthetics; multiple sclerosis; wheelchair; general.

The Chief resident and one other resident complete the inpatient consults and co-ordinate the rehab admissions. Electrodiagnostic studies are also performed at the VA.

There are daily post round teaching sessions, Grand Rounds and Journal club weekly and residents are scheduled to attend the resident lecture series at Rusk every Tuesday afternoon.

At the Brooklyn VA, there is no inpatient service and residents complete consults and attend outpatient clinics including: general; shoe; orthotics and prosthetics; wheelchair and equipment. Residents also attend the weekly Rsident lecture series at Rusk.
