Description:
Clinical electives in the Department of Urology are offered for senior students for periods of four weeks. The elective is available at Tisch Hospital and the VA Hospital. Students will function at a subintern level. The senior student may be required to take in house call with the Urology PGY3 and PGY6 every third night. Student will be encouraged to prepare a presentation of a Urologic topic of their choice at the end of the rotation. Students will be encouraged to attend all scheduled didactic conferences and Grand Rounds.
Objectives of the Elective:
This elective will aim to educate the student in various aspects of urology (outpatient, inpatient, surgery) and expose the students to all aspects of urology with hands on experience.
Key Responsibilities of the student while on Elective:
To attend rounds, assist in surgery, attend Tutorials and to attend Didactic Resident Conferences. In addition, to prepare and present a chosen topic usually at the completion of the rotation.

Method of Evaluation:
The Urology attending staff and residents provide information leading to an overall evaluation of the student which is based on performance, fund of knowledge, histories and physicals, interest, response to instruction, behavior and interpersonal relationships, professional demeanor and reliability and maturity on a scale ranging from outstanding to inadequate.

Description:
Clinical and basic science research electives are offered by the Department of Urology. Basic science research projects require a three month commitment. Basic Science projects will be available in molecular biology, physiology and pharmacology of the genitourinary tract. Clinical research electives are offered for one to three months. Areas of investigation include prostate disease, minimally invasive surgery, pediatric urology, genitourinary trauma, stone disease, male sexual dysfunction and infertility.
Objectives of the Elective:
Students will participate in ongoing clinical trials and will be encouraged to engage in an independent clinical research project sponsored by a faculty member. In addition, for Basic Science Research the student will be required to commit to at least 4 weeks of clinical elective.
Key Responsibilities of the student while on Elective:
1. To be established by the project preceptor.
2. Student will be expected to present his work to residents and faculty at the end of the project.
Method of Evaluation:
Evaluation is to be done by the preceptor based on clinical performance, fund of knowledge, interest, response to instruction, behavior and interpersonal relationships, professional demeanor to inadequate.

Students will also gain knowledge in urologic subspecialty areas such as Uro-Oncology, Pediatric Urology, Female Urology, Stone Disease, Male Sexual Function and Fertility.
