Description:
There is an elective available in neurosurgery for fourth
year medical students. Experience will be obtained in inpatient management.
The experience will be divided among the Tisch Adult Service, Bellevue Adult
Service, and Pediatric Neurosurgery.
Objectives of the Elective:
This elective will familiarize students
with neurosurgical care and procedures. Students will learn how to fine tune
neurological exams, interpret skull and cervical xray pictures and CT and MRI
images. Students will also let us review them (and them us) for residency.
Key Responsibilities of the student while on Elective:
- Students will work up new cases.
- Students will discuss cases with residents and attendings.
- Students will scrub in O.R..
- Students will attend conferences.
- Students will prepare brief presentations for conferences.
Didactic Program:
8:00 - 9:00 a.m. Wednesday - Tumor Board - Neuro-Oncology
7:30 - 8:30 a.m. every other Friday - Cerebrovasular Conference
8:00 - 9:00 a.m. Friday - Spine Conference
9:30 -11:30 a.m. Friday - Neurosurgery Grand Rounds
12:00- 1:00 p.m. Friday- Pediatric Neurosurgery
Method of Evaluation:
Evaluation is based on attendance, interest,
presentations and quantity of work-ups.

Report To: 7 AM, 12W Tisch Hospital
Students Per Period: 2-Tisch, 1-Bellevue, 1VA, 1 HJD
