Forth Year Requirements
Each student must complete twenty weeks
of electives.

Grade Sheet Performance Evaluation
1. It is the student's responsibility to make sure that a performance
evaluation is submitted to the Office of Registration/Student Records
for each elective completed outside of New York University School
of Medicine.
2. Grade sheets for each of the electives completed at New York
University School of Medicine will be the responsibility of the
Office of Registration/Student Records.
Drop/Add Elective at New York University School of Medicine
1. To drop an elective you must provide the preceptor with 30 DAYS
NOTICE by completing a drop form in the Office of Registration/Student
Records. If it is within 30 days of the first day of the elective
the student must obtain permission from the preceptor to drop the
elective before another elective will be assigned.
2. You may add an elective at any time during the year provided
the preceptor agrees to take you on the service and you are not
dropping another elective without preceptor approval. Check with
the Office of Registration/Student Records regarding elective availability.
3. Third year students may sign up for 4-week electives three months
in advance of the beginning date of the elective. A schedule of
sign-up dates will be sent to each student.
Permission to do Electives Outside of New York University School of Medicine

Written permission of the Associate Dean must be obtained to take
outside electives. Frequently, schools provide the elective application
to be completed. Submit these and all other forms requesting permission
to the Office of Registration/Student Records. For students who
are requesting permission to do an elective abroad there is a travel
release form that must be completed prior to departure. These forms
are available from the Office of Registration/Student Records. CREDIT
WILL BE GIVEN ONLY FOR THOSE ELECTIVE FOR WHICH THE STUDENT RECEIVED
WRITTEN PERMISSION.
Research Electives
The student must submit a research elective application including
a description of the project with the preceptor's signature to the
Office of Registration/Student Records for approval by the Associate
Dean.
Research elective applications are available in the Registrar's
