NYU Grossman School of Medicine’s Radiation Oncology Residency is a four-year program accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education. The comprehensive curriculum and training experience prepare residents to offer the best patient care possible. Our goal is to enable our trainees to become leaders in the field.

You begin your training in your second postgraduate year (PGY-2), after you have successfully completed your transitional year (PGY-1). In addition to your clinical training, you regularly attend classes in radiation biology and radiation physics and multidisciplinary tumor board conferences in the Department of Radiation Oncology.

We strongly encourage residents to participate in clinical or translational research. To support high-quality research, we offer one year of protected, nonclinical research time.

Our residents work at three locations in New York City: NYU Langone’s Perlmutter Cancer Center and Tisch Hospital; and NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue. This gives our residents an opportunity to interact with diverse patient populations, providing a broader and deeper experience than is typically available at a single location. Holman Research Pathway

We participate in the American Board of Radiology’s Holman Research Pathway in radiation oncology, which supports trainees who are committed to basic science or clinical research. Available to selected radiation oncology residents with strong research backgrounds and excellent clinical skills, the Holman Research Pathway allows residents to be eligible for board certification after 18 to 21 months of research and 27 months of clinical training.

The Holman Research Pathway is an alternative to the traditional radiation oncology residency program and is designed to strengthen research in the field. A specialized curriculum is developed for the residents selected for this prestigious pathway, and candidates should apply during PGY-2 through the American Board of Radiology.
